OK so the Mets absolutely suck right now. I mean come on, you get an inside the park home run and turn a triple play in the same game and still lose???? Ridiculous...it kind of feels like we have gone back to those bad teams of the 90s...you know Bobby Bonilla, Vince Coleman and company. However this mess can be fixed. I know you don't believe me, but look at the stats. Sure the Mets are in last place, but there record is 20-22 and they are only 6 games out. And we haven't quite hit June yet, so there is still plenty of time to make up ground. Now, they're only hitting .246 with 35 HR and 172 RBI as a team. but here's a bright spot....they have 14 triples, 63 doubles and 38 steals. So the offense is there, they just need timely hitting. And timely hitting does not mean home runs Mr. Wright.
Pitching look dones for right? 3.97 ERA ain't the greatest, nor is 191 walks already. They do however have 324 strikeouts, so all is not lost. They have talent there, its all about how the guys are used.
So its not all bad right? So why the hell do they look so bad?? Basically it comes from the  top. I know the Wilpons don't want to do it, but Omar and Jerry need to go. Omar for not making the necessary moves, and Jerry, well Jerryhas lost this team. These guys need a reality check, and as bad as it sounds, firing Jerry is the only way to do it. As far as replacements, I really don't have a front runner in mind. People have said Torre, but I don't see him with a team that needs to rebuild. They need a Madden type of coach-just take a look at what he has done with Tampa the past few years.
Now what happens after that? The Mets need pitching ASAP. Either Ollie or Maine needs to move to the pen and the other guy gets a one way ticket out of Queens. And they need to pick up starters that can eat innings. once again Jerry is overusing the pen because there are only 2 starters that can routinely go over 5 innings. Once you give the guys in the bullpen a rest and for God's sake define their roles and keep them there, you'll see how much the pen improves. And let's be honest, they deserve alot of credit this year.
Now how do the Wilpons go about getting said starters? Trade Reyes and Fernando Martinez. Now I do love me some Jose, and I'll be sad to see him go, but he makes the most sense. Teams still want him and he has a very managable contract. As for FMart, they have to let him go before more red flags show up and teams get scared off.
I know alot of you will say get rid of Wright too....but here's why not. When Wright doesn't have to be "the man" he plays way better and his numbers are higher. Haven't you noticed his slide started when guys like Delgado and Pedro left? Wright will be a good leader but he's just not ready for it yet. Get a vet or two, even if they come off the bench, and have them as mentors, a la Jose Valentin a couple of years ago. I think then, with the pressure off, Wright will put up some good numbers.
Its time to rebuild and bring youngsters in, guys like Ike Davis and Chris Carter and Jhenry Mejia. Sure we may have to suffer through a few more down years but I think it'll be worth it in the end. Just look at what Tampa has done-let a lot of young guys play together and grow up together. Throw in a couple vets and solid role playersand look-not only do they contend, they have changed the face of the AL East.
That is what the Wilpons need to do.....so for a few years the yanks have the back pages. When these changes are made watch and see how many years the Mets contend and become NY's team.
As I said its not all bad. Look even Omar made two good moves-signing Barajas and calling up Davis. there is a silver lining to this cloud Mets fan.....just keep bleeding that ora
